Goodell Makes Bogus Concessions On Blackouts

I still can’t believe the tone Goodell is taking when he talks about making concessions for the fans.  I was just reading this NBC sports article about some new blackout concessions the NFL is making for the fans.

All blacked out games will be available in the local markets on a tape delayed basis through NFL.com .  They’ll also be available on tape delay on The Red Zone Channel on DirecTV.  For more details read the article above.

The article goes on to say…

“Though some will still claim that the NFL should remove the blackout rule entirely, the significance of this concession should not be underestimated. The league zealously guards its game footage; the fact that the NFL is willing to re-broadcast the blacked-out games via NFL.com at no charge represents an unprecedented gesture.”

The fat cats just don’t get it!  The significance of this concession should not be underestimated?  The fact that the NFL is willing to rebroadcast  games…at no charge represents an unprecedented gesture?  Seriously!

What, by making these ‘gestures’ they’re all the sudden on the verge of total economic collapse?  By making these “gestures” they’re hanging off the cliff of economic security that will plummet them to a bottomless abyss of no cash on hand?  Really!

These gestures aren’t symbolic of caring about the fans. These gestures are more like a symbolic middle-finger that is insensitive to the love and sacrifice fans put in to the NFL product.

This is like Bernie Madoff offering his victims a $10 gift certificate to Wal-mart for all the trouble he caused them.

Listen, as a Detroit Lions fan who won’t ever have a blackout game, this issue really doesn’t influence me. Yet it really gets my blood boiling when I see the rich fat-cats, snubbing their loyal fans and making paper thing concessions under the guise of really being sincere and caring about the fans.
