New Statistics For Relievers – CMP

Posted in Detroit Tigers on August 4, 2009 by bigoranged

I’m inventing a new statistic for relievers. It’s called the CMP. Or the Crap My Pants ratio.

As a fan of the Detroit Tigers I’ve lived through Willie Hernandez, Mike Henneman, Todd Jones and now Fernando Rodney, with a few others in between.

Many ask, how can you rate the quality of a relief pitcher?  Is it based on saves? ERA?  Runners allowed?

I think it’s a combination of all those.  Which can all be funneled nicely into my CMP ratio.

10 is a perfect CMP ratio and 1 is the worst.

A true baseball fan knows their team. Their emotions react in accordance with how their team functions and plays.

If your relief pitcher consistently makes you want to crap your pants everytime they come in, then they obviously have a low CMP ratio. Probably somewhere between 1 to 5.

If your relief pitcher doesn’t make you want to crap your pants every time they come in, then their ratio is probably 8 to 10.

A true fan’s emotions aren’t deceiving.  A true fan knows their team.  If fan’s are giving their reliever a CMP ratio of 5 or lower, it’s time for a new reliever.

Casey Fien dished up a nice loss for our Detroit Tigers against the Indians last night. The guy didn’t even technically throw a third of an inning and he gets a loss!  Send him back to college so he can learn to at least get one batter out.

And what was up with Edwin Jackson?  Four innings? Eight hits?  Is he drinking the Dontrelle Willis sauce now?

French Kissed N Grilli’ed

I knew it, we should of kept Jason Grilli. He dominated us last night.  Or is his domination of us just a sign we completely suck as a team?  I report, you decide.

These Detroit Tigers got french kissed in the mouth by a starter with bad breath last night. Time to send Luke French down to class A ball again. Maybe he can be the shoulder for Dontrelle Willis to cry on?

Baseball Team Or Nursing Home?

Are the Detroit Tigers a baseball team or a nursing home?  Between Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen, Dontrelle Willis and Joel Zumaya, I’m starting to wonder.

Maybe this team should cancel batting practice in favor of evening sessions of bingo and arts n crafts time?

It’s time to clean house and get rid of the old injured horses.  The longer we hold on to them, the longer we’ll lose their value and fail to regroup as a team.

Green Jello and bingo time is nice, but that’s for the nursing home, not the dugout.

Magglio In The Line Up

The Detroit Tigers need to write two pink slips RIGHT NOW. One for Leyland and one for Magglio Ordonez. He’s in the line up tonight?  Are you kidding me???

The season is over folks. Trade the franchise and start rebuilding for next year. It’s clear Leyland doesn’t want to win.

Fire Pocello Send Him Down

Dave Dombrowski needs to be released from this organization. Our Detroit Tigers lost today 5-1 to the Chicago White Sox.  What ever idiot thought Porcello was ready for the majors is fulla of garbage.
There are no roots or hire ’em calls for today’s game. These bums couldn’t hit or pitch.  Release the whole squad and start rebuilding for next year.  Fire Inge, fire Cabrera, get a new bullpen and release Porcello. This team is crap.

Rodney Fingers

Great job by our all star calibre reliever Fernando Rodney tonight.  He came in, got the win and defeated those shmucks.

Our Detroit Tigers continue to dominate everything they face this year. Our line-up full of heroes and all stars came out tonight and dominated once again. Good job boys. Keep it up.  Those bats are unstoppable this year.
